Wayne Tympanick
Wayne began his music career as a full-time student at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, where he studied
drum set with Alan Dawson. During that time he did
extensive touring with the popular singing group The Platters and was fortunate to play with the great Czechoslovakian pianist and composer Yan Hammer, who went on to write sound scores for many shows including Miami Vice.
Following graduation from Berklee Wayne performed locally in the Boston area and also toured with Full Circle for the USO. Wayne decided to dedicate himself to a career in Music Education, working as a high school band director in Texas. He also played with a number of noted bands, including the Glenn Miller Orchestra, the Guy Lombardo Orchestra, and many Texas jazz and western groups.
In the late eighties Wayne returned to his East Coast roots, settling in first the Baltimore and later the Washington, DC area, where he performed, taught and took graduate music classes at George Mason University. He performed there with the George Hipp Orchestra, Joe Ayala Trio, Seth Kibel’s Dixieland All-Stars, and the Bay Jazz Project as well as many other groups. He has also performed live for Maryland Public Radio. His jazz groups have performed at many venues, including the Corcoran Gallery of Art, the summer concert series on the Vienna Town Green in Vienna, Va. and several performances on the Millennium Stage at the Kennedy Center. He and his wife are now residing on the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
In the last twelve years, I have had the pleasure of working with the Wayne Tympanick Trio. The McLean Community Center has contracted Wayne for numerous volunteer appreciation luncheons and the Sunday Soiree Series which was a series of 4 dances annually from 2009 until the program ended this winter in 2015. Once, for the soiree series we decided to try another band just to mix things up. The dancers let us know that it was the Wayne Tympanick Trio they wanted to hear!
The trio is very talented and versatile. They have an excellent repertoire and are happy to take requests. Additionally, they survey the room to find out what the crowd wants to hear. Our volunteer appreciation often has a theme as have many of the soirees. Although the band specializes in jazz and swing, they are multi-talented. This past spring I hired them to play Dixieland for a New Orleans-themed Luncheon which was a huge hit. We have found all the musicians Wayne hires to be very professional, intelligent, ethical and personable. Their good nature comes across in their stage presence. Please feel free to contact me should you have any questions.
